A Foreign Engineer Who Was Wrongfully Fired is Compensated SR1.9 Million

JEDDAH The verdict of a labor court requiring a foreign business to compensate an Egyptian engineer for the unlawful termination of his employment contract in the amount of SR1.9 million was upheld by the Labor Appeal Court in Jeddah. According to information obtained by Okaz/Saudi Gazette, the corporation cooperated with the order and put the money into the employee’s account last week.

In addition to giving him a certificate of “clean service” for the previous eight years, the court’s decision included paying him the full amount of his six-year contract, which included late wages, vacation pay, end-of-service bonuses, compensation for the illegal termination, and the quarterly bonus specified in the contract. The lawsuit claims that the Egyptian employee signed a six-year contract with a major corporation a few years ago. After the initial term finished, the contract was extended for a further six years, beginning in 2021 and ending in 2027, under the same terms. He had five years and eight months left on his contract, nevertheless, as the corporation ended his employment after four months.

The worker objected to the Labor Appeal Court’s decision after claiming in his petition that he was seeking payment for the remaining portion of the contract period and that he had received a preliminary finding for less than what he had requested.
