DHAHRAN: Mostadam, the government’s green building rating system, recently granted the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture the highest accreditation level. In the category of operations and existing buildings, Ithra, as it is more often known, is the first project in the Kingdom to receive the highest certification level. “We are committed to making Ithra a sustainable model, and this recognition reflects that,” stated Abdullah Al-Buqami, technical services manager at Ithra. We think that the future can be genuinely shaped by design and environmental innovation.
“A significant turning point in our sustainability journey, being the only project in Saudi Arabia to receive certification in this category demonstrates our commitment to setting an example and motivating others to raise sustainability standards throughout the Kingdom.”
Existing projects that satisfy the strictest environmental requirements and represent regional values are granted the certification. By increasing energy and water efficiency, boosting environmental performance, optimizing resource management, and lowering carbon footprint, the program, which is regarded as a benchmark for environmental and social effect, encourages sustainable behaviors.
The Mostadam program was created by the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing and is adapted to the climate and environmental circumstances of the area. It encourages environmentally friendly construction methods and seeks to improve resource, energy, and water efficiency while stimulating the economy and creating jobs. It also fits in with Saudi Vision 2030’s broader objectives. Depending on how well a project meets the sustainability requirements, it can receive one of five ratings, ranging from green to diamond.
