RIYADH: The spiritual pinnacle of the Hajj pilgrimage was reached on Thursday, Dul Hijjah 9, when over 1.67 million pilgrims assembled on the plain of Arafat. With worshippers praying, reciting the Qur’an, and lifting their hands in supplication, the atmosphere at Arafat was one of profound devotion from the very beginning of the day.
The centrepiece of the Hajj pilgrimage is the Day of Arafat, which is regarded as the most crucial day in the Islamic calendar. Pilgrims started departing in large numbers for Muzdalifah, a sacred location tucked between Arafat and Mina, as the sun sank above Mount Arafat, marking the conclusion of the day’s ceremonies.
An essential component of the Hajj is the relocation to Muzdalifah, which combines spiritual importance with logistical logistics. Despite the vast scope of the operation, Saudi officials have meticulously planned this portion of the trip to guarantee fast and safe passage.
The General Authority for Statistics reports that 1,506,576 of the 1,673,230 pilgrims making the Hajj this year are from outside the Kingdom. There are 166,654 domestic pilgrims, comprising residents and citizens. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the Ministry of Interior, and the Transport General Authority must all work together seamlessly to manage the movement of such a vast number of people.
