JERUSALEM: The Israeli military reported on Saturday that it was unable to stop a Yemeni-launched “projectile” that came down close to Tel Aviv, with 14 persons reported to have suffered minor injuries, according to the country’s medical service.
The Israeli military stated on its Telegram account that “one projectile launched from Yemen was identified and unsuccessful interception attempts were made in response to the sirens that sounded in central Israel a short while ago.”
The Houthi rebels in Yemen took credit for Saturday’s missile attack in central Israel, claiming in a statement that they used a ballistic missile to “target a military target of the Israeli enemy in the occupied area of” Tel Aviv. 16 people were injured in the incident, according to Israeli rescuers earlier.
Since the start of the conflict in Gaza more than a year ago, the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have attempted several missile assaults against Israel, the majority of which have been intercepted. Israel has retaliated by attacking a number of targets in Yemen, including ports and energy installations located in Houthi-controlled areas. “Reports of a weapon falling in one of the settlements within the Tel Aviv district were received a short while ago,” Israeli police stated on Saturday.
