Kuwait Provides Benefits to People Who Have Lost Their Citizenship

The city of Kuwait Sheikh Fahad Youssef Saud Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s interior minister, declared on Wednesday that those whose Kuwaiti citizenship has been revoked will continue to enjoy the same privileges as citizens till the end of their lives. In a news release, Sheikh Fahad, the chairman of the Supreme Committee for Kuwaiti Citizenship, explained that these people will get blue Kuwaiti passports but will not be granted nationality. In addition, they will be issued a civil identification card that resembles the Kuwaiti blue ID, and they will be considered Kuwaiti citizens for all intents and purposes.

According to the minister, people who had their nationality revoked because of fraud, forgery, or dual nationality did not appeal the ruling. He underlined that some of these people left the nation within 48 hours of the hotline for citizenship complaints being opened in May, June, and July of this year, indicating that they were aware of their infractions.

Sheikh Fahad cited instances in which people used fictitious marriages to get Kuwaiti citizenship under Article 8 of the Nationality Law, only to be divorced soon after obtaining their nationality. In blatant defiance of nationality laws, a few of these people obtained citizenship within two years of marriage.

As part of its ongoing assessment of citizenship files, the Kuwaiti government has found thousands of cases in which people violated Kuwaiti law by retaining dual citizenship or obtaining nationality through fraud.
