JEDDAH: To spur advancements in healthcare, Saudi Arabia’s $500 billion NEOM initiative is investing heavily in Paradromics, a leader in brain-computer interface technology. Announced on February 12, the collaboration with the American company is to develop BCI treatments that restore neurological function to people with disabilities.
The agreement calls for NEOM to create a Centre of Excellence for Brain-Computer Interface. This centre will become a premier centre for BCI-based healthcare in the MENA area and beyond, spearheading innovative clinical research. This investment supports the 2021 launch of Saudi Arabia’s Health Sector Transformation Program, which aims to establish a more effective, integrated healthcare system.
The initiative places a high priority on disease prevention, financial sustainability, innovation, and expanding access to healthcare services. It also emphasises growing digital technologies and e-health services to raise the standard of care and satisfy global requirements.
The collaboration will hasten the development of high-data rate BCI technology, spearheaded by the NEOM Investment Fund, with the goal of improving movement, communication, and cognitive abilities for people with neurological disorders. According to Paradromics’ founder and CEO, Matt Angle, the partnership is a turning point for both the company and the larger BCI sector.
