The 121st UNWTO Executive Council Meeting is Presiding Over by the Saudi Minister of Tourism in Barcelona

The 121st Executive Council meeting of the UNWTO was presided over by Ahmed Al-Khatib, the Saudi Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the UNWTO Executive Council. The meeting took place in Barcelona, Spain, on June 10 and 11.

Ministers of tourism from all across the world attended the summit.

“Chairing the 121st UNWTO Executive Council meeting was a historic moment for us,” stated the Minister of Tourism and UNWTO Executive Council Chairman in his opening remarks. It brought together world leaders to confront urgent tourism-related issues and advance the industry toward real improvement in every area. This meeting reaffirmed our shared goal of seeing international tourism thrive going forward, highlighting the need for creative approaches to support the industry, generate new investment opportunities, and maintain strategic alliances.”

The meeting’s main topics of discussion included implementing the overall work program, examining global tourism trends, and reforming regulations.

The discussion also examined the need of investing in human resource development to sustain global competitiveness, strategies for financial growth in the global tourism sector, and the increasing number of locations for travel worldwide.

By 2034, the tourist industry is predicted to boost the world economy by up to $16 trillion.

With a 56% increase from 2019 to 2023, the Middle East’s leading country is Saudi Arabia, which is the only region globally to surpass pre-COVID-19 tourism levels. This substantial rebound in foreign visitor numbers has established Saudi Arabia as the leader in the region.
