UK Should Give Up its Legal Battle to Netanyahu's ICC Arrest Order, According to HRW

Human Rights Watch has stated that the UK’s new government needs to give up its legal fight against the International Criminal Court’s request for arrest warrants against Israeli officials.

The court’s issuance of warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was contested earlier this year by former UK prime minister Rishi Sunak.

The senior prosecutor for the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, stated that there was a good chance that both leaders were guilty of crimes against humanity, as The Guardian revealed on Friday.

Yasmine Ahmed, the UK director of HRW, stated that it is “absolutely critical” that Keir Starmer, the nation’s incoming prime minister, back out of the legal battle against the ICC.

Two weeks ago, The Guardian reported that the incoming government was anticipated to dismiss the lawsuit.

Senior British diplomats, however, subsequently refuted the reports and stated that the decision “remained under review.”

According to ICC standards, the new UK government has until July 26 to determine whether to proceed with the legal challenge.

According to Ahmed, the Labour government has to adopt David Lammy, the next foreign secretary,’s philosophy of “progressive realism.” This was stated to The Guardian.
