RIYADH: A hospital in Riyadh has introduced a unique service that could significantly improve stroke results by treating patients while they are delayed in traffic.
The Mobile Stroke Unit was introduced by the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre on Monday at the Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh.
During the crucial first hour following the onset of symptoms, sometimes referred to as the “golden hour,” the service can provide stroke patients with rapid care, greatly enhancing their chances of recovery. Traffic frequently lengthens travel times, which delays necessary medical care, reduces recovery chances, and raises the risk of death or permanent impairment.
To address this issue, KFSHRC’s Mobile Stroke Unit offers stroke victims emergency medical attention while they are being transported to the hospital. The Saudi Red Crescent Authority sends the Mobile Stroke Unit right after the family of a stroke victim reports symptoms including arm weakness, facial drooping, or trouble speaking.
A vascular neurologist, a critical care nurse, a paramedic, and a CT scan technician are among the specialists who diagnose and treat the patient within the ambulance before they reach the hospital. In an interview with Arab News, Dr. Fahad Al-Ajlan, a stroke neurologist at KFSHRC, emphasised the unit’s potential.
