RIYADH: According to the Saudi Ministry of Health, a recovery rate of more than 95% is possible only if breast cancer is detected early.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, early diagnosis and timely treatment greatly enhance patient quality of life and lower death.
Given that breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women worldwide and locally, the ministry emphasised the significance of routine breast health checkups.
The ministry reports that 55% of breast cancer cases in the Kingdom are detected at an advanced stage, decreasing the likelihood of recovery.
To help lower the risk of breast cancer, the ministry advises avoiding long-term use of birth control pills without a doctor’s advice, abstaining from all tobacco products, breastfeeding, maintaining a healthy weight, regular physical activity, and following hormone therapy under a doctor’s supervision.
Every October, a global health campaign called Pinktober is held with the goal of encouraging screening and prevention of the disease, which impacts 2.3 million women globally.Pinktober, also known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, was launched in 2006 to provide a platform for advocacy organizations, health departments, retailers, and community groups to raise awareness of the disease, and support those affected by it.
