RIYADH — According to the Syrian News Agency, Syrian Air declared that it would resume flights between Damascus International Airport and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on Thursday, November 7. Hatem Kabbas, the director general of Syrian Airlines, said the operation will take place on Mondays and Thursdays, with a frequency of two flights per week. According to Kabbas, the air service will benefit the community members between the two nations and facilitate contact and transit at all levels. He advised anyone interested in purchasing airline tickets to get in touch with Syrian Airlines’ headquarters. Since May 8, 2016, he said, regular flights between the two airports have been discontinued.
Remarkably, the first Syrian Airlines flight landed at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh in July of this year. The Syrian Ambassador in Riyadh, Ayman Sousan, and Saudi officials from the General Authority of Civil Aviation attended a reception hosted by the Riyadh Airports Company.
Syrian Air provided Hajj pilgrim transportation services earlier this year. After 12 years of isolation since the commencement of the civil war, Syria began offering direct Hajj flights from Damascus International Airport to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah in May. On May 28, the first 270 Syrian pilgrims to perform the Hajj reached Saudi Arabia.
