Applications are Being Accepted For a Virtual Reality Competition by the Museums Commission

RIYADH: According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom’s Museums Commission has released a call for entries for its virtual reality competition, a creative project meant to improve education and encourage technological development in the field.

In order to highlight Saudi Arabia’s cultural legacy and contribute to changing the role of museums in society, the competition, which launched on December 6, encourages youth to develop immersive and interactive educational experiences that make use of virtual reality, the SPA noted. Students and recent graduates with backgrounds in digital design, computer science, information technology, and visual arts are among the competition’s varied target audience.

Applications have also been invited from programmers and developers interested in virtual reality as well as designers and artists eager to combine technology and art. The program also welcomes storytellers who are passionate about telling the history and culture of their cities or regions, as well as culture enthusiasts with a technical background who wish to investigate VR applications in museums.

Successful applicants will go through a four-month training course aimed at improving their programming and design abilities for virtual reality. Four phases will comprise the competition: trainee selection, VR training and development, interactive educational experience creation, and entry evaluation and judging.
