In the Qassim region, the Buraidah Dates Carnival is causing a spike in business activity. Both foreign traders and local consumers are drawn to the festival by the large assortment of Qassim palm dates on exhibit.
Sales for the carnival have exceeded SR78 million ($20 million) since it opened on August 1. A total of 2.5 million packets containing 9,976 tons of dates have been sold.
Over 170,000 people have attended the event thus far, according to a Monday report from the Saudi Press Agency.
Over 1,000 vehicles filled with dates are handled by the National Center for Palms and Dates, which is in charge of the carnival, which is hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture. The carnival is a significant marketing outlet.
About 80 job possibilities have been made available by the center to young men and women who are willing to work in the carnival’s seasonal market.
Sukkari dates are the most popular among both domestic and foreign traders and consumers, followed by more than fifty different Qassim date kinds.
With more than 2 million more palm trees to be planted, Qassim will increase its yearly production of more than 390,000 tons of dates, which will support Saudi Vision 2030 by increasing non-oil revenue.
