According to a statement released on Saturday by Gaza’s civil defense organization, since the military assault around Khan Yunis began on Monday, Israel has killed over 170 people and injured hundreds more.
“We are talking about 170 martyrs and hundreds of wounded since the beginning of the Israeli military operation in the Khan Yunis area,” agency spokesperson Mahmud Bassal told AFP.
He stated that as the Israeli operation went on, a large number of civilians had been displaced once more on Saturday.
“Where will these residents go is the question.” stated Basal.
“Thousands of people are dispersed across the streets and on the ground in Khan Yunis, in regions that are regrettably unfit for human habitation.
“They are exposing themselves to death because they have no other options.”
After recovering the bodies of five Israelis and announcing further operations earlier on Saturday, the military issued fresh instructions for the people of the southern city to evacuate.
Since the Israeli operation started on Monday, over 180,000 Palestinians have left Khan Yunis, according to the UN.
It further stated that there are “severe water, hygiene, and sanitation conditions” throughout the Palestinian area and that the evacuation orders and “intensified hostilities” have “significantly destabilized aid operations.”
The operation was started, according to the Israeli military, to stop rocket firing from the region, which had already seen intense fighting earlier this year.
