RIYADH: The Kingdom’s growing tourism offers and improved accessibility through low-cost carriers drove a 45 percent yearly increase in domestic flight bookings in 2024. The most recent travel trend data from Almosafer states that domestic room night reservations increased by 39% annually. Furthermore, domestic flight and hotel bookings together accounted for more than 40% of the total travel market, a rise of 11% annually.
A wider variety of vacation destinations, lodging choices, and activities that continue to entice leisure travelers to explore their homeland are major factors driving the development in domestic tourism. Bookings in the family and group travel segments have increased by more than 70%, making them major contributors to this increasing trend.
“These travel trends align seamlessly with the government’s vision to enhance in-destination value and increase domestic tourism as part of Vision 2030,” stated Muzzammil Ahussain, CEO of Almosafer, in response to the trends. Cities like Madinah, Makkah, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al-Khobar continue to be major tourist destinations.
However, newer travel locations like Tabuk and Hail, as well as Abha, Al Jubail, and Jazan, are gaining popularity because of their unique attractions, which include beaches, landscapes, mountain views, and desert experiences.
