RIYADH — Over the past week, 21,477 unlawful inhabitants from different parts of Saudi Arabia have been taken into custody. The Ministry of Interior said on Saturday that the arrests took place between January 30 and February 5 during combined field security campaigns conducted by the Saudi security forces in coordination with the appropriate government entities. Among those detained were 3,176 infractions of the Labour Law, 4,663 infractions of the Border Security Law, and 13,638 infractions of the Residency Law. While 8733 offenders were deported, 28,661 offenders were directed to their diplomatic posts to get travel documents, and 2919 offenders were referred to finish their travel bookings.
A total of 1,316 individuals were detained while attempting to enter the Kingdom; 40 percent of these individuals were Yemeni, 58 percent were Ethiopian, and 2 percent were of other nationalities. 77 individuals were detained while trying to enter the Kingdom without authorisation.
Thirteen individuals were also taken into custody for their roles in hiring, harbouring, and transporting offenders. As part of the punitive measures against them, 37,120 illegal residents—33,547 men and 3,573 women—are presently going through different stages of the legal process. Anyone who helps people enter the Kingdom illegally, transports them within its borders, gives them shelter, or offers them any other kind of aid has been warned by the Ministry of Interior.
