According to a Friday report from the Saudi Press Agency, passenger air traffic in the Kingdom increased by 17% to 62 million during the first half of 2024 from 53 million during the same period the previous year.
The report, which used data from the General Authority of Civil Aviation, stated that there were 446,000 flights, a 12 percent increase over the 399,000 flights in the first half of 2023.
According to GACA, air freight volume increased as well, reaching 606,000 tonnes in the first half of 2024, up 41% from 430,000 tonnes in the same time the previous year.
The report also stated that during the previous six months, the aviation industry in the Kingdom had experienced significant growth, with 16 Saudi Arabian airports receiving accreditation for 2024 as Airports Council International Airport Service Quality.
According to the report, which used assessment findings released by international air transport rating company Skytrax, Saudi Arabia’s airports are currently among the top 50 in the world.
Ratings agencies recognized three of the Kingdom’s international airports with accolades last year.
At the Frankfurt, Germany-based Skytrax World Airport Awards, Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah was named the best regional airport in the Middle East.
According to the Airports Council International ranking for 2023, King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah received the top ratings.
