JEDDAH: On January 25, 2025, the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah will host the second Islamic Arts Biennale. The Diriyah Biennale Foundation is organizing the event, which will include a fusion of modern artistic achievements and treasures from Islamic history. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the biennale will provide guests with an exploration of Islamic cultural legacy that appeals to their senses, intellect, and inventiveness.
Over 30 Saudi Arabian and international artists have contributed to the exhibition, which will run indoors and out until May 25. Associate curators Joanna Chevalier and Amina Diab will assist Saudi artist Muhannad Shono in curating contemporary art. Shono has given the artists the responsibility of producing fresh pieces that enhance ancient Islamic relics, in collaboration with artistic directors Julian Raby, Amin Jaffer, and Abdul Rahman Azzam.
“And All That Is In-Between,” the biennale’s subject, encapsulates the spirit of modern art and goes beyond oversimplified ideas to promote understanding, creativity, and interpretation among all. The artworks, which explore Saudi Arabia’s changing terrain and are inspired by themes like space, time, and light, offer insight into conserving and fostering culture. Under the Hajj Terminal roof, the new artwork will be on exhibit in five indoor halls and several outdoor areas with historical objects like as jewelry, maps, and religious relics.
