Japan's and Saudi Arabia's Food and Drug Agencies Will Improve Relations

TOKYO: The Japanese Food Safety Commission and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority have decided to work together to enhance safety procedures and regulatory frameworks. This was a significant result of discussions between Shigeki Yamamoto, the chairperson of the FSCJ, and Hisham S. Aljadhey, the CEO of the SFDA, on March 10. Ghazi bin Faisal bin Zaqr, the ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Japan, as well as representatives from both countries attended the conference.

According to a news release from the SFDA, the meeting’s main objectives were to improve cooperation mechanisms, the FSCJ’s operational model, worldwide issues affecting the food industry, and best regulatory methods for risk assessment. In order to strengthen regulatory frameworks and promote food safety, the participants also looked into potential directions for more scientific cooperation and research between the two parties.

While in Japan, the SFDA officials are taking part in the International Medical Device Regulators Forum’s annual meeting, which started on Sunday and runs through March 14. In order to guarantee the safety of food, medicine, and medical devices in the Kingdom, the SFDA hopes to improve international collaboration and share expertise with top international regulatory authorities at the IMDRF meeting.

This is in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030’s Health Sector Transformation Program. According to the SFDA, this alignment bodes well for the Kingdom’s medical technology and health industries going forward.
