To kick off, we asked, “What first inspired you to pursue your current path? Was there a defining moment that shaped your direction?”

Nikolas Monti-Potsolakis shared, “It all began in 2006 managing websites for cultural and music events in Greece. I quickly realized that better search rankings didn’t just boost traffic—they drove real-world results like higher attendance and sold-out shows. SEO was more than ranking pages; it was a tool to drive meaningful action. The combination of technical detail, human psychology, and strategic thinking truly hooked me.

The breakthrough came when an event website jumped into the top five Google results overnight. Interest and ticket sales surged immediately. That moment confirmed my passion for SEO and its impact. Since then, I’ve supported companies of all sizes—scaling large international operations and helping smaller businesses grow—while mentoring others in the field.”

We asked Nikolas to describe a career challenge and how he overcame it.

“One of my toughest projects was at Fortuna Entertainment Group, unifying SEO strategies across multiple brands and countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Each market had unique languages, legal requirements, and priorities, which complicated alignment.

I created a structured SEO playbook blending consistency with flexibility. Tailored workshops empowered local teams to adapt strategies to their markets. We built strong communication channels and implemented unified data tracking. Within a year, Fortuna was named the top SEO brand in the CEE region by Online Gambling Quarterly. It proved that coordinated cross-market efforts deliver real value,” he explained.

Expanding Search: What Lies Ahead

“What trends will shape SEO over the next 3–5 years?” we asked.

Nikolas Monti-Potsolakis noted, “SEO is rapidly expanding beyond traditional search engines. Brands must now be discoverable across TikTok, YouTube, voice search, and AI platforms like ChatGPT or Grok. Search is becoming more conversational and intent-driven, pushing SEO toward holistic content ecosystems.

We’ll also see deeper integration of SEO with product, UX, and business intelligence teams. SEO professionals will evolve into cross-functional consultants, mastering algorithms, customer journeys, retention, and data storytelling. Serving clients in iGaming, hospitality, cosmetics, and insurance, I see this as an opportunity to embed SEO into the core of business strategy.”

Curious about his growth plans, we asked about Nikolas’s long-term goals.

“My vision for Black Lantern Marketing and NMP Consulting is to be a boutique agency delivering elite international SEO grounded in results, not buzzwords. I aim to build a brand synonymous with transparency, long-term partnerships, and relentless excellence—no matter the client’s size or sector. This includes scaling while maintaining the personal touch that earns trust with brands like Winner, Vodafone, and Go Real Travel.

To do this, I’m investing in talent and education. I mentor SEO professionals through Femme Palette and teach at Epsilon College, shaping the next generation of digital marketers. Concurrently, I enhance our processes with AI-powered tools, proprietary frameworks, and dashboards that help clients make smarter decisions. Focusing on both people and performance will drive sustainable growth.

Above all, I’m deeply committed to my clients’ success and nurturing lasting relationships. I make sure they know I’m available whenever they need me, beyond office hours, because my success depends on theirs,” Nikolas explained.

AI’s Expanding Role in Modern SEO

We asked how AI and emerging tech are transforming SEO.

“Artificial Intelligence is shifting SEO from tactical work to strategic advantage. Tools like GPT and large language models reshape content creation, search intent analysis, and site architecture. At my company, AI helps with keyword clustering, content gap analysis, and drafting metadata, saving hours of manual effort. But real value comes when AI insights are combined with human expertise and business context.

Looking forward, the winners will be those who blend AI with authentic brand storytelling and empathy. They elevate AI from a support tool to a strategic asset, driven by vision and intentional use. Search engines are better at spotting low-effort content, raising the bar for quality and originality. Dubai, as a tech-forward digital hub hosting Global Search Awards and MENA Search Awards, plays a pivotal role in this evolution. As a judge and mentor in these forums, I advocate for responsible AI—used to amplify creativity and strategy, not replace humans. Done right, AI will be every SEO pro’s most powerful co-pilot.”

We asked Nikolas about the core principles behind his leadership.

“My core values are transparency, integrity, hard work, and empowerment. SEO is often misunderstood, so I strive to demystify it for clients—from C-suite executives to startup founders. I prioritize clear communication, measurable KPIs, and demonstrating how strategies tie directly to business outcomes. I avoid jargon and focus on real, quantifiable value.

Education and knowledge-sharing are equally important. As a lecturer, mentor, and judge, I promote a culture of continuous learning. At Black Lantern, we’re not just consultants—we’re partners, empowering teams to develop in-house capabilities rather than dependencies. This principle has shaped every collaboration and helped build long-term, trust-based relationships across industries and regions. I also instill this mindset in my team, ensuring we operate like a well-oiled machine focused on results,” he shared.

“At Vodafone, I led a project merging SEO with audience personalization and conversion rate optimization. Instead of only chasing rankings, we segmented users using behavioral data and personalized landing pages based on their journey stage. This boosted conversion rates by 12 percentage points and significantly increased organic revenue—a clear example of SEO’s role beyond traffic.

This method became a blueprint across Vodafone and demonstrated how SEO can weave into the entire digital experience. I bring this cross-disciplinary mindset to all clients, whether a luxury hotel, eCommerce platform, or iGaming brand. True success is when SEO stops being siloed and becomes part of the full customer journey.”

Leadership That Evolves With Experience

To close, we asked how his leadership style has changed.

“Early in my career, I was very hands-on—focused on technical skill and proving SEO’s value. But managing bigger, multicultural teams taught me the importance of coaching over control. Today, I lead with empathy, trust, and a focus on enabling others to excel. I emphasize clarity, ownership, and continuous growth.

The biggest lesson? Leadership isn’t about having all the answers, but asking the right questions, building strong teams, and fostering curiosity and experimentation. I encourage teams and clients to take smart risks, learn from data, and iterate constantly. This approach has grown my businesses and empowered others to find their voice in a dynamic industry,” Nikolas concluded.
