Palestinian health sources reported that at least 17 persons were killed by Israeli shelling of the southern and central regions of the Gaza Strip on Tuesday as Israeli soldiers engaged in combat with rebels commanded by Hamas.
Israel is allegedly intensifying its attacks in Gaza in an attempt to thwart attempts by Arab mediators and the US to broker a ceasefire agreement, according to the militant Palestinian Islamist group Hamas. Israel claims to be attempting to eliminate Hamas fighters.
An attack on a residence in Rafah, a southern border city where Israeli soldiers have been stationed since May, claimed the lives of five Palestinians. They reported a man, his wife, and their two children had been killed in Khan Younis, which is nearby.
At least four Palestinians were slain in separate shelling and aircraft attacks in central Gaza’s historic Nuseirat camp, according to doctors. They reported that four people were murdered in Sheikh Zayed, northern Gaza, by an Israeli bombardment.
According to the Israeli military, aircraft targeted militants, tunnels, and other Hamas military facilities, while forces carried out “intelligence-based” operations in Rafah.
According to the report, the Israeli air force hit some 40 targets throughout the enclave, including military installations, observation and sniping sites, and explosives-rigged buildings.
