RIYADH: According to data from the Saudi General Authority for Statistics, the non-profit sector in Saudi Arabia generated SR54.4 billion ($14.4 billion) in 2023, a 33 percent rise from the previous year. Employee compensation increased by 17% to SR21.7 billion, while the sector’s overall spending increased by 33% to SR47 billion.
Leading the income surge was the health industry, which saw a 70% increase over the prior year. After that, research and education activities increased by 53%, while enhancement and intermediary volunteer activities increased by 36%. These domains collectively accounted for the greatest share of the sector’s expansion.
The non-profit sector in Saudi Arabia has grown quickly, which is consistent with Vision 2030’s goals. There were 4,721 recognized non-profit organizations in the Kingdom as of March 2024, an 182% increase from 2018.
With a 74 percent year-over-year increase in spending in 2023, the health sector led the way. Education and research activities followed with a 55 percent increase, and environmental activities saw a 34 percent gain. The largest portion of the sector’s total expenditures came from these categories.
Similar patterns were seen in employee salaries, with the largest increase (84 percent) occurring in education and research activities. Compensation for environmental initiatives increased by 38%, while compensation for volunteer-related activities increased by 29%.
