Saudi Arabia Helps Prepare the First Global Assessment on the Safety of AI

RIYADH — The first international report on AI safety was prepared with assistance from the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA). The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN), and thirty nations from across the world collaborated to release the report. To guarantee its accuracy and appropriateness for present and future difficulties, Saudi Arabia offered a series of recommendations on digital governance regulations and the harmony between innovation and accountability in the development of artificial intelligence technology.

In addition to creating regulatory regulations that guarantee the development of artificial intelligence technologies in safe and responsible ways, the report attempts to evaluate the risks of AI and the difficulties related to its worldwide development. By taking part in the creation of this study, Saudi Arabia demonstrates its dedication to the responsible and safe application of AI in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and helps shape international regulations that promote sector governance. Furthermore, it strengthens the Kingdom’s initiatives to advance digital governance in collaboration with pertinent international organisations.

The report covered the most important topics regarding the primary risks and challenges of artificial intelligence, such as the loss of jobs due to automation, the environmental effects of excessive energy use, cybersecurity risks, possible hacks, and the spread of deepfaery and its effects on information and societies. It also emphasised how critical it is to take proactive steps to solve these issues and guarantee that AI is created and applied in a way that complies with international standards for safety and ethics.
