Sheikh Abdul-Amir Qabalan Al-Khatib, head of Lebanon’s Higher Islamic Shiite Council, has commended Saudi Arabia’s efforts to promote unity and stability in Lebanon. During a meeting in Beirut with Saudi Ambassador Waleed Bukhari, Al-Khatib expressed appreciation for the Kingdom’s “wisdom in bridging divides among Lebanese factions” to strengthen the country’s social and political balance.
Sheikh Al-Khatib emphasized that Lebanese citizens must regain confidence in the state, which he said should focus on addressing people’s daily, social, and security concerns. He affirmed that Lebanon’s Shiite community has always worked toward national unity rather than division, praising Saudi Arabia’s historic role in stabilizing Lebanon, especially through the 1989 Taif Accord that ended the civil war.
Ambassador Bukhari reaffirmed Riyadh’s continued support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and unity. He stressed that Saudi Arabia is not in conflict with Shiite communities and trusts the Lebanese leadership to lead the country toward stability, noting that every Lebanese group should be included in nation-building efforts based on the principles of the Taif Accord.
