COLOMBO: After a soldier suspected of war crimes in Gaza was discovered in Colombo on Friday, civil society organizations in Sri Lanka staged a protest to call for additional checks of Israelis entering the nation.
The Hind Rajab Foundation identified the soldier as residing in the nation’s capital and broadcast a video of him bragging about killing a Palestinian citizen on Wednesday, urging Sri Lankan authorities to take him into custody.
The guy has been identified as Gal Ferenbook, a member of an Israeli military infantry unit, by the Belgian-based NGO that seeks legal action against Israeli military soldiers implicated in the slaughter of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza during the previous 14 months.
According to the foundation, the video, which Ferenbook shared on his Instagram account on August 9, showed him in an armored vehicle in Gaza, examining a deceased person’s corpse. In Hebrew, a second voice made fun of the circumstance and called Ferenbook “our terminator,” as the soldier boasted about his role in the murder.
Ferenbook’s presence in Sri Lanka has sparked worries about the entrance of more Israeli nationals, even though Israeli TV Channel 12 reported on Thursday night that he had left the country after the arrest request.
