The Cairo Event Highlighted the Quality of Life for Madinah Locals and the Enriching Experience for Visitors

CAIRO — Eng. Fahad Albulihshi, the mayor of the Madinah Region and the CEO of the Madinah Region Development Authority, officially opened the “Communication” event that the authority had planned as a component of the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12), which Cairo, Egypt, was hosting. The United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) had planned the event, which had as its theme “Localizing sustainable development goals and enhancing urban resilience.”

In his introductory remarks, Albulihshi emphasized that 65 percent of the Sustainable Development Goals must be implemented locally by cities. He pointed out that one of the biggest obstacles cities have in achieving these objectives is the quantity and quality of urban data. Given that Madinah was among the first Arab cities to release its voluntary ratings, he emphasized the communication event’s relevance in showcasing the city’s experience.

As part of the Madinah Region Development Authority’s efforts to improve the quality of life for locals and the experience of tourists, Albulihshi examined two reports from a series of publications that focus on assessing the degree of livability and resilience against risks. In keeping with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, this is being done with the assistance and empowerment of Deputy Emir Prince Saud bin Khaled Al-Faisal and Madinah Emir Prince Salman bin Sultan, who also serves as chairman of the Board of the Authority.
