RIYADH: According to Jakarta’s envoy to the Kingdom, Prabowo Subianto, the country’s new president, will strengthen Indonesia’s “alliance” with Saudi Arabia, Arab News reported. Speaking at a diplomatic ceremony honoring Indonesia’s 79th anniversary of independence and the longtime friendship between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, Abdulaziz Ahmad emphasized the significance of the expanding bilateral partnership while considering recent achievements made by both nations.
“We signed four important memorandums of understanding last October during the historic visit of former Indonesian President Joko Widodo — on the Supreme Coordination Council, halal products, sports and youth cooperation, and technical standards,” he said.
“These accords are laying the groundwork for a more robust and advantageous partnership that advances the development objectives of both our nations.” The ambassador gave President Subianto’s administration in Indonesia high marks for a smooth transition last month. “With this new administration, the ties between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia will continue to grow, fostering deeper economic and cultural cooperation,” he said, expressing optimism in the future of relations between the two countries.
In light of the consistent expansion of trade between the two nations, the ambassador emphasized the importance of Indonesia’s growing export presence in Saudi Arabia. Trade between our nations jumped to $6.15 billion in 2023, a 10.81% increase from 2019. In comparison to the same period last year, our trade had expanded by an amazing 17.32% by August of this year,” he remarked.
