The Muslim mayor of London will be Knighted

LONDON: According to reports, King Charles will name London Mayor Sadiq Khan a knight in the New Year’s Honors List. Along with other well-known British politicians from the past and present, Khan is thought to have been included in the monarch’s annual list of people honored for their public service. Khan was the first Muslim mayor of the UK capital.

When the Financial Times contacted sources close to the mayor, they did not dispute that he was eligible for the knighthood.

After being elected to Parliament in 2005 to represent his native Tooting district in London, Khan, now 54, has been a well-known figure in UK politics for 20 years.

He was a minister in Gordon Brown’s government, was elected mayor of London in 2016, and was elected to a historic third term in May of this year.

According to the FT, neither King Charles nor Prime Minister Keir Starmer have given their final consent to the list’s draft. “We do not comment on speculation on honors,” a government spokesperson stated.
