The United Nations and an Islamic Coalition Collaborate to Bolster International Counterterrorism Efforts

RIYADH: To strengthen international efforts against terrorism and advance global security and stability, the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition signed a memorandum of agreement in New York. According to the Saudi Press Agency’s report on Tuesday, the MoU intends to coordinate efforts in order to confront terrorist threats in accordance with both nations’ legislation.

Under-secretary-general Vladimir Voronkov represented the UN office, while Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Moghedi, the secretary-general, represented the coalition. The MoU will fund cooperative counterterrorism programs that emphasise training, awareness campaigns, capacity-building, and addressing new issues. It also describes strategic collaboration in areas like member state-specific technical support and specialised law enforcement training.

The MoU emphasises the coalition’s commitment to fighting terrorism and strengthening international collaboration for global security, Al-Moghedi underlined. He continued by saying that cooperation with the UN will promote knowledge sharing and improve member states’ capacity to successfully handle security issues.
