RIYADH: The UN Development Programme and the Saudi assistance organisation KSrelief started a project in Aden to empower Yemeni women in renewable energy projects. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the project entails setting up 375 small projects for manufacturing and selling solar-powered home appliances like lights, stoves, and conventional ovens. In addition to teaching manuals on solar lights and conventional ovens, it offers 375 women vocational training in solar energy use, life skills, and company management.
Additionally, 21,375 women benefit from the program’s alternative solar energy sources, which include household cooking appliances and basic lights made by women-led companies in Hadramout and Lahij. According to UNDP project manager Alaa Ali, the initiative’s main goals are to provide Yemeni women with sustainable livelihoods and to address the energy needs of communities that are at risk.
According to Ali, its goals are to increase the number of women who work in solar energy companies and to increase the usage of renewable energy for lighting and other home tasks. According to the UNDP official, the program will also help women start market-driven projects that address the requirements of the local community, increase rural women’s access to economic opportunities, enhance their and their families’ quality of life, and advance sustainable development.
