Eleven Nations Join the Middle East Green Initiative, Which grows

RIYADH: Eleven nations joined the Middle East Green Initiative during its inaugural Ministerial Council session in Jeddah, accelerating a significant regional effort to tackle climate change.

The effort, spearheaded by Saudi Arabia, intends to solve regional environmental issues and support global climate goals. Representatives from 29 nations and international organisations attended the meeting, which reaffirmed the Kingdom’s dedication to promoting collaboration in environmental initiatives.

Senegal, Kenya, Algeria, and Chad are among the new members. The initiative now includes Burkina Faso, Lebanon, and Gambia. The Central African Republic, Guinea, and Nigeria were also confirmed as members.

This comes as the council underlined how important these new members are to accomplishing the initiative’s lofty goals. Additionally, it promoted greater participation from both regional and non-regional nations, emphasising the value of financial and technical assistance in achieving regional and global environmental objectives.

Abdulrahman Al-Fadley, the Saudi Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, emphasised the necessity of increased regional cooperation to defend biodiversity, maintain ecosystems, improve food and water security, and protect the environment.
