KYIV: President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has partially unveiled his five-point strategy to pressure Russia to negotiate a settlement to end the conflict. A formal invitation into NATO, which Western supporters have been hesitant to contemplate until after the conflict is over, would be a crucial component.
Zelensky gave the Ukrainian Parliament an overview of the strategy on Wednesday, but he did not provide any sensitive details that had been discussed privately with important friends, such as the US.
Although this does not imply that Ukraine will join until the conflict is over, Zelensky stated that it would represent a “testament of determination” and show how Western allies see Ukraine about the “security architecture.”
“Russia has been taking advantage of the geopolitical unpredictability in Europe for decades, especially the fact that Ukraine is not a NATO member,” Zelensky stated. “Russia has been tempted to compromise our security as a result.” He said of the NATO invitation, ” truly fundamental for peace” in Ukraine.
NATO partners have been reluctant to invite Ukraine to join while the war is ongoing, and Zelensky’s request for an invitation puts the military alliance in a difficult position.
