JEDDAH: Project Masam crews’ efforts to remove explosives and landmines in Midi area have been commended by Othman Mujalli, a member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council. Mujalli assessed the accomplishments of Masam’s engineering teams since they began working in the district on Monday, during a field tour of freed areas in northern Hajjah.
Millions of square meters of ground have been cleared by the teams’ removal of over 13,000 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices. According to Mujalli, the extent of the threat that inhabitants in Midi, one of Yemen’s most frequently mined areas, face is reflected in the numerous explosive devices that the Houthis have planted in agricultural and other crucial sectors.
He claimed that in addition to saving lives, the clearance operations were enabling farmers and herders to return to their regular occupations and travel freely and safely. Mujalli commended the district’s ongoing survey and clearance efforts, saying they were helping re-establish stability and security in the affected villages. He also expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia’s leadership for helping Masam, claiming that the humanitarian effort was crucial in removing explosives and landmines from Yemen.
