LONDON: According to The Times, French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau has demanded that Muslim women who wear hijabs be prohibited from going with children on school excursions. Religious head coverings are already banned in French state schools, and although a bill requiring the removal of headscarves on school excursions was approved by the senate in 2019, it was never signed into law.
There has never been a greater threat of attack than there is right now,” Retailleau stated. Nowadays, it is primarily endogenous, with young people becoming radicalized via social media. Our services prevented nine attacks last year alone, the most since 2017. He went on to say that political Islam is a threat to the country because it aims to “overturn our institutions and undermine national cohesion to impose Shariah law in the long term.”
According to him, the French government needs to stop Islamism from spreading in public areas, sports, and educational institutions to counter this. Students’ female companions shouldn’t wear veils, Retailleau continued. The veil serves as a symbol of Islamism and the subjection of women to men.
