SÃO PAULO — Authorities confirmed that the pilot and the owner of the light aircraft were killed when it crashed on a popular avenue in São Paulo on Friday morning, just after taking off from a nearby private airstrip. There were only the two victims on board. The collision happened close to downtown in the Barra Funda neighbourhood on the city’s west side. A woman was hurt when debris from the plane impacted a bus, while another piece wounded a motorbike.
They were both taken for medical care. Four more persons were sent to nearby hospitals after sustaining minor injuries, according to later accounts. São Paulo The casualties were identified by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas as Márcio Carpena, the owner of the aircraft, and pilot Gustavo Medeiros. The jet crashed into the avenue right past an intersection where multiple automobiles were stopped, according to CCTV footage that TV Globo was able to get.
As firefighters attempted to put out the fire, photos taken at the scene showed the bus and the wreckage enveloped in flames. The crash site is close to a number of office buildings as well as a major transit hub that has subway, train and bus stations. The crash’s reason is still a mystery. Less than three miles (five km) away, the plane had taken off from a private airfield and was travelling to Porto Alegre in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.
