Next week, representatives from over 190 nations will gather in Riyadh for the Global Symposium for Regulators, which will focus on the future of digital regulation.
Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space and Technology Commission is hosting the event with the UN International Telecommunication Union under the topic “Regulation for Sustainable Digital Development.” Artificial intelligence, sixth-generation networks, and the integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial systems are some of the subjects that will be covered.
The conference, according to officials, is a turning point in the development of global digital governance, emphasizing the role of regulators in promoting innovation, safeguarding consumers, and bridging the digital divide while furthering the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN.
Following its selection to the UN’s ITU digital regulation network board, Saudi Arabia hopes to become a global leader in digital. In 2024, 99 percent of the Kingdom’s population used the internet.
Using the observations and suggestions from the session, GSR25 will conclude with a resolution defining regulatory principles for the post-digital era.
