Torrential rains overnight submerged around 70 homes and businesses in Safi’s historic district, sweeping away 10 vehicles and blocking roads with debris. Rescue teams is the worked tirelessly amid the chaos with 14 people hospitalized including two in critical condition, as schools shut for three days. Local footage showed muddy waters trapping residents near ancient gates, highlighting the sudden fury of the one-hour deluge.
Morocco’s authorities issued orange alerts for more heavy rain snow and strong winds across provinces like Taounate, Al Hoceima, and the Ifrane, urging vigilance against further flooding. After years of drought, this extreme weather underscores as the nation’s vulnerability, though it brings some relief to parched reservoirs.
