What We Know About the Alleged Strike on an Iran School

PARIS, France: The circumstances surrounding a purported attack on an Iranian school at the outset of the Middle East conflict have been clarified by a recent New York Times research. Iran claims that over 150 people were killed in an attack on an elementary school in the southern city of Minab by Israel and the United States.

While the Pentagon has stated it is looking into the event, US President Donald Trump has placed the blame on Iran. In order to independently confirm the circumstances or the death toll from any such incident, AFP has not been able to gain access to the site. Foreign media outlets that want to report outside of Tehran must obtain explicit permission from Iranian authorities.

The New York Times has verified footage that Iran’s semi-official Mehr News posted, which shows a US Tomahawk cruise missile hitting what appears to be a clinic inside a Revolutionary Guards facility adjacent to the school.

The United States is the sole military using Tomahawks in this conflict, according to the Times. There was at least one prior explosion, as evidenced by the video, which showed smoke and dust rising from the school’s direction.

Senior US officers were advised that early salvoes included Navy Tomahawks over Iran’s southern flank, and US Central Command has provided footage of Tomahawk launches captured on February 28, the day Minab was attacked.
