RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is looking to get more private businesses involved in the sports economy and make its stadiums more profitable by opening up new investment options in athletic facilities around the Makkah region.
The Kingdom’s Ministry of Sport announced the offer as part of its “Sports Facilities Investment” program. It invited qualified companies to bid on a three-year contract to run and manage several venues, such as the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, the King Abdulaziz Stadium in Makkah, and the indoor arena at King Abdullah Sports City.
The project is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to maximize revenue from its sports facilities as the country prepares for major international tournaments and expands its domestic sports sector. The chosen operator will be in charge of managing matches, events, and daily venue services to improve the quality of operations and fan experiences. The ministry will still be in charge of maintenance and oversight. The strategy is meant to help build more collaborations with the business sector and make better use of sports facilities all year round.
