According to a senior Hamas political bureau official, the organization is “still committed” to ensuring that the US-brokered peace deal succeeds and creating a future political settlement in Gaza. When US ambassador Jared Kushner met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, Naim, a top Hamas political bureau head, was there.
“We believe still, we’re committed to the deal,” Basem Naim stated in a recent exclusive interview with Christiane Amanpour of CNN. We are still prepared to carry on in this manner in order to provide our people with an opportunity to revitalize their lives and achieve the bare minimum of peace, stability, and tranquilly.
Last month, US President Donald Trump declared that Hamas had consented to gradually surrender its weapons in accordance with a 15-point plan proposed by his so-called Board of Peace. A settlement to terminate the conflict between Israel and Hamas was reached on July 31. It contained clauses pertaining to Hamas’s weapons, the cessation of Israeli attacks, and the progressive departure of Israeli soldiers from the Gaza Strip. However, Netanyahu stressed during the meeting with Kushner that Israel would not leave Gaza until Hamas had completely disarmed.
