RIYADH: Al-Ahli defeated Al-Shabab 3-2 in the competition’s final at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh on Thursday night to become the first-ever Saudi Arabian Football Federation Women’s Cup champions.

Player of the match went to Al-Ahli forward Ibtissam Jraidi, who scored her team’s first two goals in the 18th and 50th minutes. Al-Ahli maintained their dominance in the 53rd minute when teammate Naomie Kabakaba added a third.

But Al-Shabab launched a late comeback attempt, starting with an Oriana Altuve penalty kick in the 68th minute. In minute 88, Chaima Abbassi added another. However, they could not score the third goal they needed to tie the game in the remaining little time.

The tournament for the new 16-team Women’s Cup, which started in November, ended with the final. Given the sport’s significant global growth, the federation implemented it to boost women’s football competition in the nation.

Al-Ahli forward Ibtissam Jraidi was named player of the match after scoring her team’s first two goals in the 18th and 50th minutes. After a third goal from teammate Naomie Kabakaba in the 53rd minute, Al-Ahli continued to dominate.
