Elon Musk’s SpaceX satellite division, Starlink, issued a “degraded service” warning on Saturday as the planet was being pummeled by the strongest solar-induced geomagnetic storm in the past 20 years.

According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, this storm is the largest since October 2003 and is expected to linger through the weekend, posing a risk to satellite navigation, power grids, and navigation systems, among other services.
The network provides global internet coverage thanks to intersatellite laser links, which allow the thousands of Starlink satellites in low-Earth orbit to transfer data at the speed of light.
