On Saturday, June 15, 2024, and continuing through September 15, 2024, Saudi Arabian authorities will start imposing a prohibition on working under direct sunlight for all private sector establishments from 12 PM to 3 PM. The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development will work together to enforce the ban. By shielding them from potential health hazards and offering a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with international occupational safety and health standards, this decision seeks to protect the health and safety of workers in the private sector.
In order to help create a safe work environment, improve the effectiveness and means of prevention to reduce occupational injuries and diseases, and protect workers from accidents, the ministry urged employers to arrange working hours in accordance with this decision. This will ultimately improve and increase productivity. “Procedural Guide for Occupational Safety and Health to Prevent the Effects of Sun Exposure and Heat Stress” is available on the ministry’s website. Reporting violations of the ministry’s prohibition on working in direct sunlight can be done using the ministry’s smartphone app or by calling the ministry’s unified number, 19111.
