JEDDAH: At a workshop held as part of the Madinah Dates Season, the use of artificial intelligence to revolutionise agriculture—reducing costs and increasing efficiency—was highlighted. Faculty, researchers, and AI enthusiasts from Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz University convened at the Madinah Chamber of Commerce to deliberate on the future of farming.
At the workshop, artificial intelligence (AI) tools that track crop health, spot disease early, and provide treatment recommendations were on display, according to a Saudi Press Agency story on Tuesday. Additionally, devices that forecast pest activity were showcased, allowing farmers to employ focused pest management techniques and cut down on chemical usage and crop losses.
Experts discussed how cutting-edge electronic systems could transform Saudi agriculture, improve sustainability, solve problems, and increase domestic output. The workshop also promoted awareness of date palm varieties, nutritional value, and agricultural practices as part of this year’s Madinah Dates Season.
233 teams of creative thinkers, programmers, and students are participating in a hackathon that will run until October 3 and aims to apply AI to agriculture and resource management.
The primary focus of the event’s first track is building data sets to enhance date cultivation and quality, to achieve sustainable agricultural development by utilising AI systems that lower costs and increase efficiency.
