A Legislator from Russia Claims that Action is Required to Protect Society from Inmates who Served in the Ukrainian War

A lower house parliamentarian from Russia stated that more has to be done by law enforcement to shield the public from reformed criminals who have come home after fighting in Ukraine.

In an interview with the publication gazeta.ru, Nina Ostanina, a Communist Party deputy sanctioned by Western nations due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, stated that violent crimes involving discharged troops “will be even more numerous” if the government does nothing.

The Kremlin has been troubled by reports of terrible crimes, like as rape and murder, committed by Russian soldiers after they returned from their mission in Ukraine. The Kremlin presents the soldiers who are engaged in this “special military operation” as heroes.

Many of the criminals are males who were given early release from prison after completing lengthy sentences for major offenses in return for their military service during the conflict. This year, a number of Russian jails will close as a result of their inmates joining the combat zones in Ukraine.

Ostanina’s remarks, which were made public on Wednesday, amounted to a rare acknowledgement by a Russian politician that the areas in which returning soldiers are stationed are experiencing difficulties.

Ostanina stated to gazeta.ru that law enforcement ought to be required to monitor ex-soldiers on a regular basis in addition to assisting them in obtaining employment and reintegrating into society.
