From Resistance Leader to Accused Traitor: How Aidarous Al-Zubaidi Lost Southern Yemen’s Trust

RIYADH: Instead of acting like a statesman and boarding the plane that was supposed to take him to Riyadh on Tuesday night to meet and shake hands with Yemeni President Rashad Al-Alimi, Aidarous Al-Zubaidi chose to “no-show,” solidifying his reputation as a traitor to his country.

He also agreed to prioritize the interests of the Yemeni people and ask for forgiveness for actions taken for personal gain at the expense of the country. Furthermore, he verified this by setting up weapons caches and trying to create mayhem in a manner akin to “after me, the deluge.” A few days ago, Yemeni Information Minister Moammar Al-Eryani disclosed these disruptive acts in a post on X.

For those who don’t know, Al-Zubaidi is the leader of the Southern Transitional Council, which advocates for southern Yemen to secede. Al-Zubaidi acted as an enemy and saboteur of the Yemeni government, even while he was a prominent member of it, despite years of efforts by the Yemeni government and the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen to contain him. Many, including other southern representatives, disagreed with his approach to the matter.
