Australia’s US Envoy Rudd Announces Early Exit from Ambassador Role

Sydney: Following criticism from US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday that Australia’s ambassador to the US, Kevin Rudd, is resigning, a year ahead of schedule. Albanese informed a press conference that Rudd, a former prime minister of Australia, will return to lead the Asia Society think group and complete his posting in March.

He declared, “Australia and the United States are the closest of friends and allies, and this will never change.” “We will keep carrying out the significant work that Kevin has completed; some of it is, of course, ongoing work. According to Albanese, Rudd negotiated a crucial minerals deal with the US and won the Trump administration’s continuing backing for Australia’s biggest defense project, the AUKUS nuclear submarine program.

Before Trump was appointed ambassador, Rudd criticized him in several ways, calling him “the most destructive president in history.” After being named ambassador, he later removed that remark from social media. When Albanese questioned Trump about Rudd’s previous remarks at a White House event in October, Trump pointed to the ambassador across the table and stated, “I don’t like you either, and I probably never will.
