Rising Tensions Between the United States and Iran: What the New $10M Reward Means

WASHINGTON: Senior Iranian military and intelligence personnel, including Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, the country’s new supreme leader, are the subject of a $10 million bounty from the United States.

According to the State Department website, ten officials connected to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are the target of the reward. The armed force, which was established following the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, is devoted to the supreme leader and entrusted with defending the Shiite clerical hierarchy.

After his father, Ali Khamenei, and a number of other senior Iranian officials were murdered in combined US and Israeli operations that started on February 28, Mojtaba Khamenei just took over as Iran’s supreme leader. Despite making his initial speech on Thursday, the younger Khamenei, who is thought to have been hurt during the strikes, hasn’t been seen in public since.

The US is also looking for information regarding Iran’s interior minister Eskandar Momeni, intelligence minister Esmail Khatib, security director Ali Larijani, and two individuals in Khamenei’s office.

Despite US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s claim that Iran’s leadership was “cowering” underground, Larijani was seen on Friday in footage confirmed by Reuters with President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi at a rally in Tehran.
