A European woman bought a property during her marriage using more than Dhs1.6 million of her own money, declaring ownership equally between her and her husband. After their separation, she initiated proceedings before the competent court against her former husband to claim reimbursement of the amount of money she had paid on his behalf.
The Dubai Real Estate Court ordered the ex-husband to pay Dhs828,000 with 5 percent yearly interest from the date of the claim until complete payment. A European couple bought a residential unit for Dhs4.239 million in November 2024 on an installment payment plan and registered ownership equally between them.
The complainant said she paid the installments due to the real estate developer and registration costs from her own bank account and her ex-husband did not pay anything. She paid a total of Dhs1.653 million by April 2026. Of this, Dhs1.483 million was paid in installments and Dhs169,000 in registration fees,” she said.
The plaintiff recruited an expert consultant to divide the funds paid between the parties. The expert’s report indicated that the defendant’s portion was Dhs828,000 since the property was registered in their names in equal amounts.
