Tariq Aba Al Khail, the official spokesperson for the Saudi Geological Survey and the National Centre of Meteorology in the United Arab Emirates, reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.36 was observed earlier today. According to Al Khail, the Arabian Plate’s movement and collision with the Eurasian Plate put stress on the ancient faults in the Arabian Gulf region, which is what triggered this earthquake.
He went on to say that Saudi borders were unharmed and that this earthquake was one below normal. The Earthquakes was also picked up off the coast of Jubail by the National Centre of Meteorology, according to data on its website. This event was ascribed to strains on ancient faults in the Arabian Gulf region and was deemed to be below average in intensity. The Arabian Plate’s movement and collision with the Eurasian Plate are causing these tensions. At 8:50 PM local time on April 22, 2025, an earthquake was recorded 10 kilometers off the coast of Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
The prevailing consensus is that Saudi Arabia has little seismic activity. Nonetheless, areas close to the Arabian Plate borders, such as the western part of the nation along the Red Sea or the Gulf of Aqaba, do see earthquake activity.
